Upgrade

Have been chipping away at an upgrade for a while and have just uploaded it. It includes:
  1. renamed many of the pages to help Google ratings - eg changed avalo.html to avalokitesvara.html: created html redirects for the old pages.
  2. Added mantras and bijas for the Female Buddhas according to Vessantara's sadhanas.
  3. Added Sanskrit text for the Heart Sutra.
  4. Tweaked some of the images for contrast.
Will probably have to lay off for a while now, but I am open to suggstion for improvements. Thanks to everyone who has written in.

A Cautionary Tale

On a website with as much information as this one there are always going to be errors, especially working with multiple scripts. Some weeks ago I realised that I had left the svaha off the end of the Prajnaparamita Mantra. I duely redid the calligraphy and updated the site. A few days later I received an enquiry from a fan asking about the change. I explained about my lapse. And then she wrote:
"you are not going to believe me but I saw the mantra months ago and I loved the caligraphy and of course the meaning, and I was in Thailand and had a tattoo done! but with only the first 4 characters ha ha... and I dont think there is enough space for the svaahaa because is in the foot..lol"
Argh! While I was sympathetic and found a positive angle on this dilemma I thought I would post this story. I do get a regular stream of requests for larger calligraphy that can be copied for a tattoo. I'm not particularly motivated to help with this kind of thing - can't see the point. But I would suggest that anyone using my calligraphy for a tattoo should cross check with some of the sources that I link to. I do get things wrong despite my best efforts, and a tattoo is quite permanent!
